How this is calculated
Every figure is plain arithmetic on the numbers you enter. Nothing is estimated or averaged.
| Billing cycle | Charges in a year |
|---|---|
| Every week | 52 charges a year |
| Every 4 weeks | 13 charges a year |
| Every month | 12 charges a year |
| Every year | 1 charge a year |
- Cost per year = the amount × the charges in a year.
- Cost over 3 years = the cost per year × 3.
- Cost of waiting = the cost per year × the time you wait, as a share of a year. Weeks are counted out of 52 and months out of 12.
Example: $9.99 every month is $119.88 a year ($9.99 × 12), $359.64 over three years, and $29.97 for a three-month wait.
Stopping the charges
A charge ends when the company has your cancellation on record. A formal letter sent by certified mail gives you a dated copy and a delivery record that you can point to.
Some contracts also ask for notice before the next renewal. The deadline calculator shows the last safe day to mail your letter for yours.
