Where to send your The Economist cancellation letter

Read the addresses on this page next to the full guide to cancelling The Economist.

The addresses we hold

The address a cancellation letter to The Economist needs, and every other address we hold, starting in New York: copy the lines exactly and the envelope sorts itself.

Where the letter goesMailing address

The Economist900 Third Avenue16th FloorNew York, NY 10022

The head-office address for The Economist, in New York. ZIP code 10022.

How to address the envelope

  1. Copy the address exactly

The front of the envelope carries 900 Third Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10022 and nothing else in the address block. Check the 10022 digit by digit before it goes in the post.

  2. Put your own address on it

Top-left, your own name and address. A return address is what the post office needs to send the letter back if The Economist has moved.

  3. Ask for certified mail

At the counter, certified mail costs a fee on top of the postage and comes with a mailing receipt and a delivery record. The tracking number on the green label is what you follow.

  4. File the receipt with your copy

Hold on to the letter copy, the receipt and the tracking page; the notice period (For new or renewing subscriptions on or after April 14 2025, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period) runs from the date on the record.

Your letter to The Economist

The request itself is short: The Economist is asked to end the account, stop the charges and confirm in writing, with the email on the account, the delivery address for print copies and the subscription or reference number from your latest invoice where the brackets are.
