How to cancel your SPIEGEL+ subscription by mail
Gather your account details
Before writing, collect the email on the account, the delivery address for print copies and the subscription or reference number from your latest invoice. SPIEGEL+ can only act on a request it can match to an account.
Put the request in writing
SPIEGEL+ is based in Germany, so the letter goes out in German, built from our German template. Subject line: “Betreff: Kündigungsanfrage – [your name]”. It asks for the subscription to end, for further charges to stop and for written confirmation.
Post it with proof of delivery
Send the letter to the Hamburg mailing address shown below by certified mail. Keep the tracking number safe.
Keep proof the letter arrived
The receipt dates your request. Look at your statements for any SPIEGEL+ charge for a period after the cancellation takes effect.
With Postbye, steps 2 to 4 take about two minutes of your time.
Where your SPIEGEL+ cancellation letter goes
SPIEGEL+'s own pages give DER SPIEGEL, Abonnentenservice, 20637 Hamburg, Germany as its mailing address.
The envelope is going to Hamburg, Germany, so the postcode 20637 must be on the front.
Your name, address and email appear in a short block labelled Kontoinhaber, Hinterlegte Rechnungsadresse and Hinterlegte E-Mail-Adresse, under the greeting “Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,”.

Before you cancel SPIEGEL+, check these
Work out your cancellation deadline from your next billing date before you send the request.
- SPIEGEL refunds no subscription price for time-based digital access such as SPIEGEL+
- A print subscription cancelled any way other than the online cancellation form keeps arriving for the periods already paid, unless you expressly ask for it to end at once with a pro-rata refund
- Only the main account holder can cancel a multi-user subscription; cancelling it ends every guest account, but upgrades booked separately keep running at the regular price
- An upgrade's discount needs an active, paid print subscription or digital product: cancel that and the upgrade continues at its regular price
- If SPIEGEL raises the price by more than 10%, you may cancel with effect from the increase; the cancellation must reach SPIEGEL within one month of the announcement
- Your order or customer number is on your bank statement, your invoice or the address label of your magazine
Several states set rules for subscriptions that renew on their own. See what yours requires in automatic renewal laws by state.

Cancelling a news or magazine subscription
Publishers often move you from an introductory price to the standard rate and can make cancelling slow to find, so a written request is the record that you asked.
A letter is the formal route: it states the request in writing, carries a date and, sent by certified mail, comes with proof of delivery.
SPIEGEL+ lets you cancel directly (online, by phone, email or letter: fill in the cancellation form at gruppenkonto.spiegel.de/kuendigung.html ("Vertrag kündigen" in the spiegel.de footer) with your order or customer number, name, postcode, town and email address; call customer service on 040 3007-2700 (Mon-Fri 8am-7pm, Sat 10am-6pm); email aboservice@spiegel.de; or send a letter to DER SPIEGEL's subscriber service (Abonnentenservice) in Hamburg). A letter is the fallback that leaves a dated record when the direct route fails.
