How to cancel subscriptions billed through Amazon

To cancel a plan billed through Amazon, open Your Memberships and Subscriptions, find the plan, select Manage Subscription and choose Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls. Prime itself ends on the Cancel Your Prime Membership page, and Prime Video subscriptions such as Paramount+ continue after Prime ends, so they need their own cancellation. If you need a dated record of your request, or a plan will not end online, a mailed letter is the better proof.

Cancel a plan billed through Amazon

To cancel Amazon Prime itself, see our page on how to cancel Amazon Prime. This guide covers the other plans billed through Amazon.

Amazon's help page on managing subscriptions says you can check and manage your Amazon subscriptions, Prime and Prime Video included, from Your Memberships and Subscriptions. It lists your active, cancelled and expired subscriptions, with the renewal date and price of each.

  1. Go to Your Memberships and Subscriptions

Sign in to your Amazon account and open that page from the account area.

  2. Find the subscription

Locate the plan you want to cancel. The renewal date and price on the row tell you which charge it belongs to.

  3. Select Manage Subscription

This shows the options for that plan, such as changing the payment method.

  4. Select Cancel Subscription

You will find it under Advanced Controls.

The same page mentions an Auto-Renew option for select digital subscriptions. Turning it off stops the recurring charge for a subscription or a free trial before the renewal date. Not every plan has it.

Prime and Prime Video subscriptions

Prime is the plan most people mean. Amazon's help page for ending a Prime membership says to visit the Cancel Your Prime Membership page and follow the prompts. For more options on managing the membership, it points to the Prime Membership page in your account. Our own page for Amazon Prime holds the details we keep for it, including the address for a written request.

If you need more support, Amazon's help page gives this route: go to the Customer Service homepage, select Something else under Can't find what you're looking for, then select I need help with something else.

  • Refunds: Amazon says paid members who have not used their benefits are eligible for a full refund of the current membership period, processed in three to five business days. The Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions set out the rest in their section on cancelling a membership.
  • Prime Video subscriptions: Amazon says subscriptions on Prime Video, like Paramount+, continue once your Prime membership ends. They need their own cancellation.
  • Signed up through Google Play: if you joined Amazon Prime through Google Play on Android, Amazon says to cancel through Google's subscription services. See our guide on cancelling subscriptions on Google Play.
  • Tied to another company's service: if your Prime membership comes with another company's service, Amazon says to contact that company to cancel it.

The website and the app

Amazon's help pages describe these steps on the website, so the website is the route we can describe with confidence. If you use the Amazon app, look for the same page names in your account area: Your Memberships and Subscriptions, and the Prime Membership page. We have no separate app walkthrough from Amazon, so we do not describe app screens.

After you cancel, open Your Memberships and Subscriptions again. A cancelled plan is listed with the cancelled status. Screenshot it so you have the date.

What each Amazon service page covers

Amazon is many businesses under one name, and a plan you pay for may not be Prime. Each page below holds the cancellation details we keep for that service, including the address for a written request where we have one. Pick the one that matches the name on your statement.

When a letter is the better record

Online cancellation is the quickest route, and Amazon's pages are clear about it. A letter is the better record in a few cases:

  • The cancel option does not appear for your plan, or the page loops back.
  • You are disputing a refund, and you want proof of the date you asked to stop.
  • A business, seller or cloud account needs a written notice to end.
  • You cancelled online and charges continued, and you want a dated record that reaches the company.

Our guide to cancelling a subscription by mail explains the steps, and certified mail for cancellations covers the receipt and the delivery record. USPS describes both on its page about Certified Mail and other extra services. The cancellation letter template builds the letter for you.

Amazon plans billed through Apple or Google

Some people start an Amazon-related plan through an app store. Amazon's page says a Prime membership started through Google Play is cancelled through Google. A charge that names Apple points to Apple's list instead: see how to cancel subscriptions on iPhone and how to cancel Apple services.

If the charge keeps coming

Match the charge to a plan by its date and amount. Then check Your Memberships and Subscriptions for an active plan you missed. If Amazon bills you after the date it should have stopped, send the delivery date of your letter and the list of later charges. The FTC's advice on getting out of subscriptions is to keep records and dispute charges that continue after you cancel. Our guide on what to do when a company keeps charging you explains each step.

Questions about how we handle a letter for you are answered in our help center and on how it works. To see what your plans cost in a year, try the subscription cost calculator.

Send your cancellation by certified mail

Tell us the company you want to leave. We write a formal cancellation letter, mail it by certified mail the next business day and send you the delivery proof.
