Gym contract cancellation law in Florida
Fla. Stat. section 501.017 is the statute that applies when you cancel a gym contract in Florida. Penalty-free cancellation within 3 days (excluding weekends and holidays) by written notice, with a refund within 30 days. Cancel and get a refund if the studio closes or moves more than 5 driving miles without an equal facility, or on death or physical disability certified by a physician. - Penalty-free cancellation within 3 days (excluding weekends and holidays) by written notice, with a refund within 30 days.

- Initial contracts may not exceed 36 months and then renew only annually.

Say which law you rely on
In the body of the letter, cite Fla. Stat. section 501.017 and the part of it that applies to you. Add your member number, your name as it appears on the contract and the date you want the contract to end.
Mail the notice with tracking
Post it by certified mail so the delivery is recorded, and keep the mailing receipt with a copy of the letter. If the statute sets a deadline, send early enough that the date is not in doubt.
File your copies and watch your statements
Do not throw anything away yet. Store the contract, your letter, the mailing receipt and any confirmation until you have seen a statement with no further charge.
If the club ignores your Florida notice, your proof is the record you will need for a refund request or a card dispute.
Send your cancellation by certified mail
Tell us the company you want to leave. We write a formal cancellation letter, mail it by certified mail the next business day and send you the delivery proof.
