What this means when you cancel
Check the contract against the statute
Open your signed contract and mark its notice period, its end date and where notices go. Hold those against the Hawaii statute so you know which rule gives you the earliest exit.
Cite the statute when you write
Name HRS sections 486N-6 to 486N-8 in your letter and say which right you are using, such as the cancellation period or a condition the statute lists. A club that sees the statute named knows you have read it.
Mail it with a receipt
Post it by certified mail so the delivery is recorded, and keep the mailing receipt with a copy of the letter. If the statute sets a deadline, send early enough that the date is not in doubt.
Do not discard anything yet
Keep your records until the last charge has cleared. If a payment still goes through afterward, show the club your proof and, if needed, your bank.
Send your notice early. In Hawaii the dates in the statute and in your contract both count, and a late letter can cost you another billing cycle.
