Cancel until midnight of the 3rd business day after signing, with a refund within 30 days. What this means when you cancel

  1. Set the contract beside the law

Find the dates, notice terms and cancellation address in your gym contract, then compare them with the North Carolina points above. Note any deadline that has not passed yet.

  2. Quote the statute in your letter

In the body of the letter, cite N.C. Gen. Stat. sections 66-118 to 66-122 and the part of it that applies to you. Add your member number, your name as it appears on the contract and the date you want the contract to end.

  3. Post the letter by certified mail

Send the signed letter by Certified Mail with Return Receipt. The receipt shows when it was mailed, and the return card shows who accepted it.

  4. Keep everything until the last charge clears

Keep your records until the last charge has cleared. If a payment still goes through afterward, show the club your proof and, if needed, your bank.

Send your notice early. In North Carolina the dates in the statute and in your contract both count, and a late letter can cost you another billing cycle.

Send your cancellation by certified mail

Tell us the company you want to leave. We write a formal cancellation letter, mail it by certified mail the next business day and send you the delivery proof.
