What this means when you cancel

  1. Check the contract against the statute

Find the dates, notice terms and cancellation address in your gym contract, then compare them with the New Jersey points above. Note any deadline that has not passed yet.

  2. Say which law you rely on

Write the statute into the letter by its citation, N.J.S.A. 56:8-42 and 56:8-42.1, and state the date you are cancelling from. Keep the wording short and calm. Our letter template shows the layout.

  3. Send it by certified mail

Take the letter to the post office and send it by Certified Mail. Ask for the receipt, keep it with your copy of the letter and note the tracking number.

  4. Hold on to your records

Do not throw anything away yet. Store the contract, your letter, the mailing receipt and any confirmation until you have seen a statement with no further charge.

Statutes change. The link above goes to the official text, so check it again if your contract was signed some time ago.

Send your cancellation by certified mail

Tell us the company you want to leave. We write a formal cancellation letter, mail it by certified mail the next business day and send you the delivery proof.
