What this means when you cancel

  1. Read your contract next to the statute

Put your contract on the desk next to S.C. Code Ann. sections 44-79-30 and 44-79-40. Write down the term, the notice rule and any cancellation address, and check whether the statute gives you a right the contract does not mention.

  2. Quote the statute in your letter

Write the statute into the letter by its citation, S.C. Code Ann. sections 44-79-30 and 44-79-40, and state the date you are cancelling from. Keep the wording short and calm. Our letter template shows the layout.

  3. Mail the notice with tracking

Mail the letter by Certified Mail with Return Receipt and keep the receipt. How to cancel a gym membership by mail walks through each step.

  4. Hold on to your records

Keep your records until the last charge has cleared. If a payment still goes through afterward, show the club your proof and, if needed, your bank.

Send your notice early. In South Carolina the dates in the statute and in your contract both count, and a late letter can cost you another billing cycle.

Send your cancellation by certified mail

Tell us the company you want to leave. We write a formal cancellation letter, mail it by certified mail the next business day and send you the delivery proof.
