What this means when you cancel
Check the contract against the statute
Find the dates, notice terms and cancellation address in your gym contract, then compare them with the Illinois points above. Note any deadline that has not passed yet.
Cite the statute when you write
Write the statute into the letter by its citation, 815 ILCS 645/1 et seq., and state the date you are cancelling from. Keep the wording short and calm. Our letter template shows the layout.
Send the signed letter with proof
Take the letter to the post office and send it by Certified Mail. Ask for the receipt, keep it with your copy of the letter and note the tracking number.
Hold on to your records
Keep the contract, the letter, the receipt and the club's reply until your last charge has cleared and your statements show nothing further.
Write down the date you mailed your Illinois notice. Dates matter more than anything else in a cancellation.
Send your cancellation by certified mail
Tell us the company you want to leave. We write a formal cancellation letter, mail it by certified mail the next business day and send you the delivery proof.
